Part I - General Information

General Procedure for Athletics

a. Seniors will not participate in junior varsity competition, unless a waiver has been granted by the Chairman of KPAD and the school.

b. Students who are ill or who have an unexcused absence on the day of a game will not be allowed to participate in that game.

c. Individual dual participation is disallowed in all league sports.

d. The home team is encouraged to report the score, game highlights to the local media.

e. Any change of a scheduled game must be agreeable to both schools.  In the event of failure to agree, the president of KPASSP has final authority.

f. The Chairperson of KPAD will assign the task of making schedules for each sport to various schools.  The following items should be included:

  1. A home and away matrix using numbers of designate teams.  (Numbers will be drawn at the KPAD meeting to determine each school’s place in the schedule.)  In preparing the matrix, a balance of home and away contest must be achieved and the prime home dates (e.g., Friday nights) should be equally distributed.

  2. Home teams should be clearly indicated.

  3. Starting times of both weekday and Saturday contests.

  4. Day and date of all contests.

  5. Dates of coaches meetings, both pre-season and All-Star voting.

  6. Host schools and dates of all League and Invitational Tournaments.

g. All schedules must be approved by the KPAD and principals.

h. Maximum Rounds and/or Tournaments Allowed in KPASSP competition:

i. 

Note:        Schools wishing to play more games may schedule other games at their convenience.  Schools may host or participate in Invitational Tournaments, including potential Far East Tournaments.

                 The decision to schedule additional games or to host or participate in Invitational Tournaments rests solely with the administration of each school.

j. Any modification of rules of the sport will be recommended to the KPAD for approval or disapproval prior to the beginning of that sport season.  AD’s only can make changes to schedules, not coaches.

k. In the event a member school has justification for protest, it will be made, in writing, within 72 hours of the game, and presented to the chairperson of the KPAD with the signature of the coach and the principal of the protesting school.  Protests based on the alleged ineligibility of a player may be made at any time, provided they are made immediately upon discovery of the facts on which the protest are based.

l. The procedure for resolving protests of athletic contests will be as follows:

  1. A committee of three will be formed consisting of the following:
    a. The chairperson of the KPAD or some principal appointed by the chairperson if the chairperson’s school is involved in the protest.
    b. An official.
    c. A coach from a school not involved, preferably a coach of a different sport.

  2. The coaches from the teams involved should be present to clarify their position, but they have no voting power.  Their presence, however, is required.

  3. The committee of three will:

    1. Inform themselves of the necessary information pertinent to the incident.

    2. Recommend action, if any, to be taken.

    3. Set a time limit for action to be taken, if any (e.g. make-up game).

  4. The committee’s decision must conform with the KPASSP athletic handbook and the constitution.

  5. The committee’s decision will be final and binding.

m. All league championships will be determined by win-loss records.  Any team that withdraws from league competition shall forfeit all games played and all games to be played.

n. In order for a school to participate in varsity KPASSP tournaments, a school must have participated in varsity competition.  To be eligible for a league championship, a team must complete all scheduled league games.

o. It is strongly recommended that high school teams shall not participate until they have practiced a minimum of ten practice days. (Changed May, 2001)

p. After the fourth league game of the season, a player on the varsity team may not play on a JV game (boys and girls).  (Added May, 2004)

q. Penalties for violation of the athletic rules and regulations adopted by the KPAD and their spirit and intent, will be in accord with recommendations of the KPAD to the KPASSP.  Penalty for violation of rules may include forfeiture of eligibility for a sport season or a year, or if the offense is extreme, for the remainder of a student’s high school career.  Any school that violates any of the eligibility rules or regulations may be suspended for further competition with member schools for a period of one to three years in that contest in which the infraction occurred.  The minimum penalty is forfeiture of the contest.

r. If referees or umpires fail to arrive, every effort should be made by the schools involved to use available people to referee or umpire.  If no agreement can be reached, the contest will be rescheduled at the original site.

s.

     a.  If a student is ejected from a game for bad behavior or negligence of rules, then it is also extended to the next regular league game.  (Note:  For Cross Country, it is extended to the next meet.) (Changed Nov., 2001 & Nov 5, 02)

     b. Coaches should have the same expectations and consequences as students when sent out of a game/match.  If a coach is ejected from a game for bad behavior or negligence of rules, then it is also extended to the next regular league game.  For Cross Country, it is extended to the next meet.  (Added May 2004)

t. Tournaments:  KPASSP Tournaments will include all KPASSP members who wish to participate, before non-members are invited.  (Nov. 5, 02)

u. “Black Out Dates”:  Due to the numbers of students involved, There are 4 KPASSP Fine Arts dates each year during which no KPASSP Sports are scheduled:  Speech (Nov.), Vocal Solo & Ensemble (Nov.), Instrumental Solo & Ensemble (Feb.), and Honor Concert (Band or Choir - March).  Non-KPASSP sports or events are not included in these “Black Out Dates”.  

v. In the event of a season ending tie, the seeding for tournaments will be determined by the least points conceded through the regular season of the teams involved. If that still results in a tie, then a single coin toss will be used to determine the seeding. (Revised Sept. 2008)

Awards

A. The KPASSP will award a league championship patch to each letterman on the championship team.  These awards are for regular season competition, not league tournaments.

B. The KPASSP will award All-Star patches in each sport as indicated by the guidelines of that sport.

C. The KPASSP will award a championship banner to the first-time winner of the Kanto League and Kanto Tournament.

D. In case of a tie, teams involved will receive the number of patches for which they qualify for.

Safety Concerns

Each school will submit an “Emergency Medical Procedures” sheet at the first KPASSP principals’ meeting each school year.  This will outline procedures taken for injuries, the availability of ambulances, doctors and alternative medical facilities for non-military personnel when on military bases.  Maps of medical facility locations should be included.  Responsibilities and expectations of the home school personnel and the visiting school personnel should be clearly outlined.  The maintainer of the KPASSP Constitution will compile these sheets, copy them and distribute them to the principals as soon after the first meeting as possible.

Part II - Individual Sports

Cross Country

  1. All meets will be conducted according to the most recent National federation rules with exceptions approved by KPASSP.

  2. All cross country meets will be held in a designated area determined before the season begins.

  3. The cross country team will be made of seven runners; the first five runners of a team will count for a team’s points.  The other two runners of that same team can push the opponent’s points higher, but do not count toward their own team’s points.  A school must have a minimum of five (5) runners to compete as a team.

  4. The League championship will be decided by the results of the dual meets.  The KPASSP Cross Country Final Meet will take place after the end of the League season.

  5. League patches will be awarded to the League champion.  All-Star patches will be awarded to the top 10 boy and girl finishers in the KPASSP Meet Final.  A banner will be awarded to the winning boy and girl team of the KPASSP Cross Country Finals. (Changed Nov., 2001)

Girl's Volleyball

(Updated September 2005)

  1. Volleyball matches will be conducted according to the most recent FIVB rules, with the exceptions approved by KPASSP. (Far East Tournaments will use the USVBA rules.)(Revised Sept. 2008)

  2. No varsity team member may be moved to the J.V. after the fourth league match of the season.

  3. Weekday matches will start at 17:30, unless mutual arrangements are made.  A minimum of twenty (20) minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes for warm up before each match.  Varsity matches will begin a maximum of 30 minutes following the conclusion of the J.V. match.

  4. The maximum number of players of a J.V. team is unlimited with a maximum of 18 substitutes per game.

  5. Matches for J.V. games are two out of three games for a win and Varsity is three out of five.  Note: third game optional for practice. (Changed Sep., 1999; Nov., 2001)

  6. All Star patches will be awarded on the basis of three for the league champions, two each for the second and third place teams and one each for the other teams in the league.

  7. At the J.V. level only players will be permitted 2 tosses. For tournament play however, only a single toss is permissible (Revised Sept. 2008)

  8. Boys are not permitted to participate in Kanto Plain girls’ volleyball matches that involve International Schools.  (changed Sept 2005)

Section II: About

Tennis

(Changed March 2012)

  1. Tennis matches will be conducted to the most recent USTA rules.  Schools who host the Kanto or the Far East tournament will be responsible for making sure a copy of the rules is on hand during the tournament.

  2. The boys and girls team will consist of three singles and two doubles matches each.  No players may play both doubles and singles during the course of a match between two teams.

  3. Any student who competes at the Varsity level after October 1st will be prohibited from competing at the JV level for that season.  (Revised Sept. 2008)

  4. All league matches will be determined by playing two of three six-game sets.  If the games are tied at 6-6 in one set, a twelve (12) point tie break will be played.

  5. Home team provides three new balls per match.  

  6. Once matches have begun, coaches will not interfere with match play in any way except for a reasonable consultation after the first set and 5 minute rest between the second and third sets.  Players may not offer advice in place of the coach during a match.

  7. In the event of rainout, the home team is responsible for making schedule arrangements as soon as possible.  Most re-scheduled matches will take place on the following Tuesday or Wednesday.

  8. The players themselves will make all calls.  If frequent violations in calls are obvious at any time, the home coach will assign a referee or linesman.

  9. League matches on Saturdays will begin from 9:00 AM.

  10. The boys’ league champion and the girls’ league champion will be awarded patches (one patch for each member of the regular season team) at the end of the season.

  11. KPASSP Tournament
    The tournament coordinator will determine starting time.  If it is a one-day tournament, consolation play may be reduced or eliminated, to play will begin from afternoon the day before to ensure completion.

  12. One day tournament are for Kanto School only.  In non Far East years, outlying schools will be invited to join.

  13. All entrees to the Kanto and Far East tournaments need to bring one new can of tennis balls.  Winners will advance with the new can and losers will advance to consolation matches with the old can.

  14. Coaches and or tournament coordinator will decide prior to the tournament how seeding will taking place.

  15. There should be no player with two byes in a tournament.  And only in a consolation round should the by player have to win the next match to receive a point.

  16. Two points will be awarded for a win in the main draw, while 1 point will be awarded for a win in consolation.  Preliminary matches, played to advance into the main draw will receive no points.

  17. Players should be given reasonable rest between matches.

  18. Awards:
    First Place-Banners will be given
    Singles semi-finalists will receive all-star patches.
    Doubles finalists will receive all-star patches.
    There needs to be 6 individual trophies for winners of the tournament in singles and doubles.  Trophies should not be excessive in size.
    LEAGUE TOURNAMENT TIEBREAKER (adopted March 2012): In the event of a tie, to determine a team tournament champion in the Kanto Tennis Tournament, the following criteria will be used:

    1. number of champions

    2. number of finalists

    3. number of semifinalists

    4. least amount of sets lost in semis and finals

    5. coin toss

American Football

  1. All football games will be played according to the most recent NFHS rules, with exceptions approved by KPASSP.

  2. No football games will be replayed.

  3. J.V. games will start at 10:00 hours and varsity games at 13:00 unless mutually agreed by the schools involved.

  4. J.V. games will consist of four (4) ten (10) minute quarters.  Varsity games will consist of four (4)  twelve (12) minute quarters.

  5. A student may not compete in more than four (4) quarters of interscholastic football in five consecutive calendar days unless a make-up game is necessary.

  6. An all-star team may be selected by the coaches at the conclusion of the season.

Basketball - Boys & Girls

  1. Basketball games will be conducted according to the most recent NFHS rules, adapted for high school play with exceptions approved by KPASSP.  (Revised Sept. 2008)

  2. All games will have eight minute quarters with a minimum of fifteen (15) minute pre-game on the floor warm-up.  Warm-up may be limited to twenty (20) minutes by the home team.
    (a) Overtime periods shall be three (3) minutes in length.
    (b) Half time will be ten (10) minutes.  Half time may be extended by mutual consent to a maximum limit of fifteen (15) including five (5) minutes on the court warm-up.
    (c) 35 second shot clocks for both boys and girls shall be used for ball possession timing for league games. (Revised Sept. 2008)

  3. All schools may play a JV game as a preliminary to a Varsity Game.  These games are to be canceled at the pre-season coaches’ meeting if a team is unable to play.

  4. A player may not participate in more than four (4) quarters in one day (junior varsity or varsity).

  5. On request a five (5) quarter rule may be used.

  6. After the fourth league game of the season, a player on the varsity team may not play on a JV game.  (This applies to both boys and girls.) (Nov. 08).

  7. There is a 14 foot movement box for coaches of basket ball. (Approved Nov. 5, 02)

  8. All-Star patches will be awarded on the basis of: Three for league champions, two each for the second and third place teams and one each for the other teams in the league.

  9. The following tie break system will be used for seeding in the J.V. Basketball tournament:

    • Head to Head

    • Defensive points allowed between tied teams

    • Defensive points allowed between all teams

    • Coin toss

Wrestling

(Revised September 2008)

The International Amateur Wrestling Federation (FILA) Freestyle Rule Guide will be followed.

A. Weight Classes:

          The following weight classes will be used throughout the season:

B. Weight Class Certification (revised Sept. 2008) 

The purpose of certification is to establish a minimum weight class for wrestlers in order to prevent unnecessary and excessive weight loss that will be harmful to the health of our student athletes.

 

Each wrestler will be certified into a specific weight class on the second Wednesday after returning from the winter break. Certification information will be forwarded to all Kanto Plain coaches and athletic directors. A KPASSP wrestling coach, AD or other school official will be appointed (at the beginning of each wrestling season) to consolidate the information.

Rules for the certification

  • The school wrestling coach and either a school administrator, athletic director, school nurse or teacher will be in attendance to certify weigh-in

  • If a wrestler is not in attendance on this certification date, certification will be based on the last recorded weigh in at a tournament or match

  • After certification, a wrestler may not weigh in below a weight class that he has been certified

  • After certification, a wrestler may wrestle only one weight class above his certification weight

  • After certification, if a wrestler weighs in more than one weight class above his certified weight, he may no longer weigh-in at his original certification weight. He will then be certified automatically at the heavier weight class

  • In order to wrestle at his certified weight class in the Kanto Finals, a wrestler must have weighed in at this weight class in at least 50% of his weigh-in opportunities during the season

  • However, notwithstanding the above, all wrestlers will be given a two-pound natural growth allowance after the certification date

C. A wrestler must weigh over 85 pounds to wrestle at the 101  lb. weight class and over 94 lbs to wrestle at the 108 lb.  weight class.

*A wrestler must weigh over 180 pounds to wrestle at the 215 lb. weight class (formerly heavy weight).  *Minimums for 101 lb. and 108 weight classes will be initiated at the beginning of the 2002 – 2003 season.)

 

D. All other wrestlers may wrestle a maximum of one weight class above his actual weight.  For example a wrestler must weigh over 115 lbs. to wrestle at the 129 weight class.

This qualifying weight includes the one pound allowance for tournaments that are contested longer than one day.  For example, the 135 pound weight class becomes the 136 pound weight class on the second day of a tournament and 137 pound weight class on the third day of the tournament.

The only exception to the rule allowing a wrestler to move up one weight class is in the 275 pound weight class.  In order to wrestle 275, the wrestler must weigh more than 215 pounds.  The weight requirement for that weight class increases by one pound for each past the first day of a given tournament.   Therefore, the qualifying weight becomes 216 pounds on the bottom end and 276 pounds on the top end for the second day and yet another pound for the third day.  (Nov. 2004)

 

E. Wrestling dual meets include adequate/ reasonable time for teams to warm up prior to competition.  Wrestling coaches will agree on mutually acceptable lengths of time for adequate/ reasonable warm up time.  (Nov. 2004)

 

F. Determining which coach must commit his choice of wrestlers at a given weight first for dual meets.  Prior to the beginning of a dual meet, the coaches will meet for a coin toss.  The coach who wins the toss will have the right to choose the odd or even numbered matches.  If the coach chooses the odd-numbered matches (1,3,5,7,9,11,13) with the numbering beginning with the 101 pound #1 and progressing on up through the 275 pound category.  The opposing coach must send his wrestler, in all of the odd-numbered matches onto the mat first.  Once the wrestler appears on the mat, he cannot be replaced.  The coach who loses the coin toss will have the right to withhold his wrestler from the mat until the opposition sends their wrestler onto the mat in the even-numbered matches.
Drawing the order of matches does not change the numbering progression.  The progression shall always start with the 101 pound class as the first odd-numbered match (whether or not it was actually the first match wrestled) and move through the weight classes with 275 pounds being the last odd numbered weight. G. To become an All-Star, a wrestler must win at least 80% of his matches and wrestle a minimum of ten matches.  There will be a minimum of one All-Star in each weight class, therefore if no wrestler has won 80%, the wrestler with the highest percentage will receive the award. (Nov. 92)

H. League meet weigh-ins will be conducted at the host school.  Teams will weigh-in shoulder to shoulder.

I. Equipment: Head gear is mandatory and high-top shoes are recommended.

J. *Additional illegal holds for this league are the “back supplex”, “guillotine”, “Westpoint”, “3/4 Nelson”, “Salto”, “reverse Gut-wrench lift”, and “Full Nelson”.  Coaches are requested to stress the non-use of other illegal holds and to prevent their use.

K. In an effort to avoid serious injury or death from weight loss and dehydration, the following practices are prohibited:
     (a) The use of rubber or plastic suits that prevent the passage of air.  Cotton sweat suits are allowed.
     (b) The use of diuretics and laxatives.

     (c) The use of saunas or “running the shower”

L. KPASSP League Tournament:  Information regarding time schedule, weigh-ins etc. will be provided by the Tournament Director.  The Kanto Tournament is open to Kanto schools only. 

M. There will be a KPASSP Wrestling Dual Meet Championship Team and a Kanto Plain Individual Tournament Team Champion.

N. TEAM TOURNAMENT CHAMPION TIEBREAKER (adopted March 2012): In the event of a tie, to determine a team tournament champion in the Kanto Wrestling Tournament, the following criteria will be used:

  1. number of champions

  2. number of pins in finals

  3. number of finalists

  4. least amount of periods lost in semis and finals

Girls' Field Hockey

(Updated September 2005)

  1. Field Hockey will be conducted according to the most recent A.E.W.H.A. rules.  Some of these rules are experimental.  The coaches will decide if these experimental rules will be implemented.  Otherwise only the mandatory rules will be adhered to.

  2. The use of “Rolling Substitutes: is permitted at all levels and should be made from the middle of the field with no time stoppages.

  3. An All-Star team of eleven (11) players will be chosen by the coaches.  All-Stars will be given a patch.  League champions provide 5 All-Stars, second placed team 4 All-stars and third and fourth placed teams provide 3 each.

  4. Scoring for league play will be:  3 for a win and 1 for a tie.

  5. Boys are not permitted to participate in Kanto Plain girls’ field hockey matches that involve International Schools.  (Sept 05)

Section II: About

Baseball

  1. Baseball will be conducted according to the most recent NFHS rules with exceptions approved by KPASSP.

  2. Normal scheduling will be two seven-inning games to be played as a double-header.  Both seven-inning games must be of at least four and one half innings in length to be counted in the league standings.

  3. Home teams will be responsible for the supplying of baseballs and hiring umpires.

  4. A pitcher may pitch only seven innings of a scheduled double-header unless the game should be extra innings.  However, a pitcher may pitch only fourteen (14) innings in a 24 hours period.  (e.g. a pitcher may pitch seven (7) innings on Friday and seven (7) innings on Saturday or any combination of fourteen (14) innings in a 24 hour period.  An inning for a pitcher will constitute the throwing of at least one (1) pitch to a (1) batter.

  5. The current scheduling practices include a scheduled rain-date and procedures (the following Tuesday) for a second rain make-up.  Verification of the rescheduling or make-up should be accomplished by the home coach as quickly as possible to allow time to reschedule bus transportation and other logistical concerns.

  6. *The starting time of weekday games is to be scheduled by the host school, and Saturday game time is 1000 hours.

  7. The league championship will be decided by the number of league games won.  Tie-breaker process will be decided at the pre-season coaches meeting.

  8. All-star patches are awarded per team according to their finish in league play.  Individual coaches determine recipients.

  9. Current rules on face masks and bats will be enforced.

Track and Field

  1. Track and Field will be conducted according to the most recent NCAA rules with the exceptions approved by KPASSP.

  2. Events and order of events for all meets:

    • Shot put (boys 5.45 kg. – girls 4 kg.)

    • Discus (boys 1.616 kg. – girls 1 kg.)

    • High Jump

    • Long Jump

    • 400 meter IM hurdles (boys)

    • 200 meter low hurdles (girls)

    • 310 meter hurdles (girls)

    • 3000 meters **

    • 200 meters

    • 800 meters

    • 400 meters relay

    • 400 meters

    • 100/110 meter high hurdles

    • 100 meters

    • 1500 meters **

    • 1500 meter relay **

  3. Limitation of Competition:
    A. 
         1. A contestant may enter 4 events with no more than 3 events in one area.
         2. The number of running events any runner could take part in is increased to 4 as long as one of them is a relay.
         3. 3 track and 1 field, or 3 field and 1 track, or 2track and 2 field.  A relay is considered a track event.  (Changed Nov., 2001)
    B. Junior varsity competition is held in all events.  Points will not be counted on a team score.

  4. Number of entries in scheduled meets:
    A. Entries are limited to 3 contestants per school per event.
    B. No school may enter more than one varsity relay team in any one event.

  5. Awarding of points:
    A. Dual meets (2 schools): 5, 3, 1 with relays 5, 0.
    B. KPASSP Finals: 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 with relays of same value.

  6. Starting times of the meets will be 9:30, with set-up beginning at 9:00 am (or earlier if teams coordinate it).

  7. TEAM TOURNAMENT CHAMPION TIEBREAKER (adopted March 2012): In the event of a tie, to determine a team tournament champion in the Kanto Track and Field Tournament, the following criteria will be used:

    1. number of champions

    2. number of individual champions

    3. number of top three placements

Soccer (Girls & Boys)

(Updated November 2011)

  1. Current F.I.F.A. rules will be used with the exceptions approved by KPASSP.

  2. The length of the varsity game will be 80 minutes. JV games will be 70 minutes. Half time will be five minutes.  Changes to game times may be made by mutual consent of the 2 head coaches & communicated to 3 officials before the game begins.

  3. For all games 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw will be awarded.  In the event of a tie at the end of the season, both teams will share that place of finish.

  4. In case of cancellation because of bad weather or any other unforeseen circumstances, and the 2 teams are unable to reschedule the game, the score shall be 0-0 and each team will receive 1 point.  This will be decided by a meeting of the coaches, if necessary.

  5. Officials:  The home team must provide 3 officials.  One referee and 2 linesmen, or a referee and local coaches as linesmen, or as a last resort only, use students or parents as linesmen.

  6. Unlimited substitutions are allowed onto the field after reporting to the side official.  The referee will allow them onto the field at his discretion, usually when the ball is dead.  Coaches are to minimize the number of stoppages to three per half during the game for the insertion of substitutes. This will keep the game flowing.  Injury substitutions do not count as one of the 3.  Substitutions at half-time do count as one of your three for the second half. The referee may allow players being substituted for to exit at the nearest touch line, to minimize the stoppage of the game. Each coach may only insert substitutes players 3 times during each half, no matter which coach called for the stoppage. Coaches are to exchange rosters with players’ names and jersey number before the match begins.

    Players who participate in the Varsity game are normally ineligible for the Junior Varsity game on that day.  Players may volunteer to play in the second game if his team is short of players, to ensure that a second game can be played.

  7. Home coaches are responsible for keeping everybody from standing along goal lines, including coaches, players and spectators.  It is the coaches’ responsibility to see that players on the field wear complete uniforms and those on the sidelines wear something over their jersey.  If there is a uniform clash, the home team will provide colored bibs for the visiting team.

  8. Players are permitted to wear clothing under their uniform for warmth or to protect themselves when playing on artificial or other abrasive surfaces.  All players are required to wear shin guards at all times during games.

There will be a Varsity tournament at the end of the season.  Other invited teams may be added and if so, seeded last, after the Varsity League teams are seeded by league final standings.  There will also be a Junior Varsity tournament, if possible.  Seeds will also be by final league standings.  Both tournaments are invitational.  The league may choose to not have a Varsity tournament if the teams are invited to the Far East Tournament sponsored by DODDS.    If the tournament is an elimination type, ties at the end of regulation time will then go to two ten-minute overtimes and if still tied, a PK shoot-out.  If pool play, games may end in a tie, but to break ties for advanced rounds determined by 1) goals for-goals against, then 2) goals for.  If still tied, the 2 teams will draw lots.  The tournament director or their representative will be in attendance at all tournament games to make decisions on issues that arise such as red cards, eligibility and times for matches.

  10. The Varsity league and tournament will award all-star patches based on league play: 1st place=4,2nd place=3, 3rd place=2, 4th place on = 1 each.

  11. Players receiving a red card in any season game or tournament game are disqualified for the next game of that team, unless the referee himself acknowledges an error and rescinds the red card. Notification of all red cards must be sent in to the league secretary with game results by the home coach. The decision of the head referee is final.

  12. 8th graders may only play in exhibition games.

  13. A coach may start practices as approved by their Athletic Director.

Softball Club Guidelines

(Spring, 1999)

This is a Softball Club where the focus is to provide a friendly atmosphere to play softball as well as provide a learning experience for girls.  League win-loss records are not kept.  It is a short season with a one-day tournament at the end.

Rain out games are not rescheduled.  The home team is responsible to determine safe playing conditions during inclement weather and must notify traveling teams as well in advance as possible.

Team uniforms are not issued but teams may have matching sweatshirts, caps, tee shirts, etc.


The home team provides the official – usually a plate umpire with someone to keep the book.  Umpires have in the past offered helpful assistance with rules and game mechanics to inexperienced players.

Game Modifications:

  • Games are played to an hour or 5 innings (whichever comes first).  After 3 complete innings, the 15 run rule may take effect.

  • 10 players on a team.

  • Fast pitch softball with a small degree of an arch – pitchers are allowed to move closer to the plate if necessary to reach the plate with a pitch. (Revised Sept. 08)

  • Both coaches must agree at the beginning of the game if the infield fly rule is in effect.

  • NO BALLS ARE CALLED. There are NO WALKS (no base on balls).  Batters hit the ball or strike out.  All foul balls are strikes.

  • Base runners may not steal.

  • With the exception of the above rules, basic softball rules apply.
